Doe Bay

A unique getaway destination in the San Juan Islands of Washington wanted to redesign their website and add e-commerce.

Doe Bay Resort and Retreat is an hospitality property on Orcas Island in Washington State. Instead of having rooms like a traditional hotel property, Doe Bay features multiple accommodation types: hike-in campsites, drive-up campsites, yurts, and cabins with multiple amenity levels. Each accommodation has a name and a unique personality.

Little Bee Productions was hired to implement a new shopping card and eventually do a website redesign, perform regular maintenance, implement various features for the shopping cart, create an HTML newsletter template, and help clean subscriber lists for the new email newsletter.

E-Commerce:
Doe Bay has a strong repeat customer base and the General Store at the resort wanted to extend their reach to an online web store. We used Zen Cart because it had some customization packages that the resort needed. Eventually, staff also used the store to sell tickets for the Resort’s annual music festival, Doe Bay Fest.

Redesign:
The old site was written in HTML and staff were having to use Dreamweaver to make updates. Licensing and training costs were getting to be cumbersome. WordPress made perfect sense for a company who wanted to maintain their own content. We purchased and customized a premium WordPress template for the main site content and another one for Zen Cart so that the two sections of the website maintained a smooth user experience.
